Prepare a Valentine’s Day Menu
A 5-Step Guide for Home Bakers 💕
Table of Contents
Hey, home bakers! 🍰
Valentine’s Day is one of the sweetest holidays of the year—both for lovebirds and home bakers!
It’s the perfect occasion to roll out a special menu, grow your customer base, and turn seasonal buyers into year-round clients.
Whether you’re just starting or have an established home bakery, this guide will walk you through creating and selling Valentine’s Day treats that stand out, sell out, and bring customers back for more.
Remember- this MUST fit into your overall aim as a small business owner- we will still align it with the kind of clients we want + the kind of bakes we want to bake and sell.
Why Valentine's day?
Before diving into recipe testing or social media teasers, it’s essential to figure out if Valentine’s Day specials are a good fit for your audience. To gauge interest, ask yourself:
💘 Are most of your customers under 30?
Younger audiences love themed treats and are more likely to buy Valentine’s Day goodies for gifting or celebrating with friends.
💘 Do people buy from you for gifting occasions?
If your past customers frequently order for gifts and bakes for regular consumption (and not just cakes) they’re likely to jump on Valentine’s specials too.
💘 Do students buy from you?
Students and young professionals are a huge market for affordable, creative treats- especially on Valentine’s Day.
Unsure? No problem!
👉🏻 Put up an Instagram Story poll asking your followers if they’re interested in V-Day specials.
👉🏻 Message loyal customers directly to see if they’d order.
Remember, my goal is to make your Valentine’s Day menu risk-free. We’ll focus on items that are easy to make, versatile, and profitable, so you won’t be left with unsold inventory.
Step 1: Decide if You Have the Right Audience for V-Day Specials ❤️
Step 2: Design a Menu That Wows Customers and Keeps Them Coming Back 💌
Your Valentine’s Day menu is more than just a one-time offering—it’s an opportunity to win over new customers and establish loyalty. Here’s how to craft a menu that stands out while being practical to execute.
1. Know Your Audience
Valentine’s Day buyers often fall into these categories:
- 💕 Students and young professionals looking for budget-friendly gifts.
- 💕 Couples wanting something indulgent for their celebration.
- 💕 Friends celebrating cute “Galentine’s” with their besties
To cater to everyone, offer three tiers of pricing (esp for students):
- 💸 Budget-friendly items (₹500 or less).
- 💸 Mid-range treats (₹500–₹1000).
- 💸 Premium options (₹1000–₹2000).
6 - Cake Jars in unique flavours
Cake jars can be made in so many flavours and are definitely easy to carry, easy to assemble, easier on the pocket- and so personal!
Go for flavours like red velvet or chocolate-strawberry for a pink pop!
I just added a whole new bonus called Cake Jars and Tubs in my Gourmet Celebration Cakes Masterclass! Get it here!
5- V-DAY Special Rum Balls/ Cake Balls
Chocolates are a thing of the past, think something more profitable than that – and more unique- like rum balls! (Or even V-Day special non alcoholic cake balls in a cute boxes of 6 or 9 pieces!
I cover everything about making and selling Rum Balls (even the V-Day special version) in this super affordable course here!
4- V DAY Special Hot Chocolate Mix
Okay, what is cuter than hot chocolate mix? It’s called a “hug in a mug” for a reason. And imagine red velvet (V-Day special) hot chocolate mix in a cute jars with heart shaped marshmallows!
They can be stored for a long time, easy to ship & can be made in bulk (and no oven needed, wohoo!).
I cover everything about making and selling Hot Chocolate Mixes (even the V-Day special version) in this super affordable course here!
3 - Gooey chocolate cookies
You can make a whole hamper of just assorted cookies or you can even add cookies as part of the whole hamper.
But the ones I love the most are gooey chocolate cookies- SOOOO much better than chocolava cakes- and the same experience when heated!
With cookies, you can not only customise the flavours but also the appearance and even texture from crispy to chewy to cakey to crumbly melt in mouth. I actually teach them all in my Art & Science of Cookies Masterclass, get it here!
2- Brownie tubs or browniesicles
I would NOT go for plain brownies- I would go allll out and make them look so cute- you can have unique flavours AND pack and present them in different styles.
My Bestselling Brownies Bundle not only covers everything about making and selling brownies & blondies but ALSO has an amazing BONUS: 6 Styles Of Selling Brownies like brownie hampers, brownie tubs & more! Get it here!
1. Red VELVET CHEESECAKE BLONDIES
Literally nobody wants a full cake for V-Day. They want something more unique!
And this is so perfect because not everyone sells them (and even if they do, you make them BEST, especially with the 6 styles of selling brownies)—these are rich, can be made bite sizes and taste SOOOO good (and look even cuter 🫠)- Plus, after selling these, they will come back for more brownies and blondies!
How to Package Them:
Cut them into neat squares, place them in Kraft boxes with parchment paper, and add a red ribbon for a festive touch. Use heart-shaped tags for added flair.
Avoid the typical chocolates and heart-shaped cakes.Instead, offer creative items that stand out while staying close to your expertise.
My top Valentine’s Day menu picks include
Love Note about your menu
- It Has Something for Everyone: Budget-conscious customers can opt for cookies, while premium buyers may splurge on hampers or cake jars.
- It Stands Out: Unique items like rum balls and red velvet hot chocolate make your menu memorable.
- It Builds Loyalty: These items are versatile and encourage repeat orders beyond Valentine’s Day.
Please remember though:
Add products that lead to year-round sales. And remember, a menu is ALWAYS made for the people- who are the people ordering on V-Day? It’s usually students or people under 30, so make sure the menu is slightly pocket friendly.
Remember, these people would LOVE these products and want to get more of them, try to promote categories you already sell, so they can get them again even if in different flavours!
Valentine’s Day is all about the details, and beautiful packaging can make your treats unforgettable. But that doesn’t mean you need to spend a fortune.
1. Use Neutral Packaging
Start with Kraft boxes, jars, or plain paper bags, and dress them up with:
- 🌸 Pink and red ribbons.
- 🌸 Doilies or heart-themed stickers.
- 🌸 Handmade tags or wax seals.
2. Add a Personal Touch
Attach handwritten cards or thank-you notes for a heartfelt touch.
3. Streamline Your Workflow
As I highlighted in my hamper planning blog, preparing materials ahead of time ensures smooth production. Pre-cut ribbons, assemble packaging kits, and have all your supplies ready before orders come in.
You need great branding because this is an amazing marketing and customer acquisition opportunity. That means you MUST have your stickers and cards and any personal notes in the hamper so the giftees can contact you to place repeat orders!
Imagine, they’ve JUST tasted your product and want to see where they can order more from, it must have those contact details!
This way, even if it doesn’t sell during V-Day- you are in safe hands as you can use it later!
Step 3: Get Creative with Packaging (Without Breaking the Bank!) 🎀
Step 4: Market Like You Mean It 💖
You can’t sell a secret! Marketing is the key to a successful Valentine’s Day launch.
1. Start Early and Build Hype
- Tease your menu with sneak peeks on Instagram and Facebook.
- Post behind-the-scenes content like recipe trials or packaging prep.
- Keep them engaged and invested- ask for their opinions on stories and in DMs
2. Make It Fun and Interactive
- Run engagement posts like:
- Post idea 1- “Tag your Valentine to let them know what you want! 💕”
- Post idea 2- “If your Valentine’s name starts with S, they owe you this hot chocolate!”
- Post idea 3- “POV: Your Valentine falls for you again because they received a thoughtful gift from you”
- Use hashtags like #ValentinesGift, #GiftsForHer, #GiftsForHim and #HomeBakersValentines for better reach.
3. Create a V-Day Vibe
Transform your social media into a Valentine’s-themed haven with themed graphics, captions, and color schemes.
My “Social Media for Winter Sales” Bonus has ready-made strategies to help you get started- from what kind of posts you need to share to how to run a theme based campaign- you absolutely CAN NOT miss this (and then use it again in November for Winter Sales!).
This bonus is a part of the Winter Bestselling Bundle (which is a bundle of the Rum Balls Masterclass, Hot Chocolate Mix Masterclass and the Plum Cakes Masterclass – get it now so you can use it TWICE in one year!)
4. Explore Local Opportunities
Participate in Valentine’s Day stalls or pop-ups to connect with new customers. Trust me, the season is perfect, people are out on dates and you can instantly sell so much (and make heartfelt- permanent connections!)
Learn how to ace this in my Home Bakers Guide to Stalls and Pop-Ups Course.
Remember: Use Valentine's Day as a method for immediate orders AND new customers in the long run!
1. Focus on Presentation
Every order should look Instagram-worthy! Use themed props (like flowers, wine glasses), arrange treats beautifully, and ensure your packaging is flawless. People buy a vibe BEFORE a product.
Even if they don’t immediately buy it, this campaign keeps you in their minds for future!
2. Engage Post-Sale
- Send thank-you messages and ask for feedback.
- Offer a discount or pre-order option for future events.
- Ask for their anniversary and send a reminder with a wish!
Why Valentine’s Day Specials Are a Must for Home Bakers 💕
- They bring in new customers who can become long-term clients (think anniversaries, their friends’ birthdays, wedding favours!
- Valentine’s Day treats often lead to bulk orders since you can get multiple orders for the same item in ONE day, making it a high-revenue opportunity.
- Creative menus help you showcase your skills and grow your brand- but remember to NOT entertain a lot of customisation to avoid chaos.
The goal of your Valentine’s Day menu isn’t just to make a sale—it’s to create loyal customers who’ll return for more.
Step 5: Deliver an Experience They’ll Remember 🍓
With the right menu, marketing, and strategies, Valentine’s Day can be a game-changer for your home bakery business. Start preparing today and let your creativity shine!
